Purpose and Scope

The Manager, Donor Engagement is responsible for growing gifts given to support the ministry of The Gideons International by developing and implementing strategies and initiatives for the acquisition, activation, cultivation and stewarding of donors.

The role also represents a major source of funding ($16.2 Million in FYI 2012) for the mission of The Gideons International and increases awareness of the ministry among the Christian community and the general public. The stated goal of this position is to develop the GideonCard Bible Program into a robust revenue source and to build the program into a sought after brand for members and supporters.

The Manager of Donor Engagement coordinates direct mail appeals, email communications, social media and web site activity to members and non-members.

Essential Job Functions
GideonCard Bible Program:

Provide oversight of the GideonCard Bible Program, including the operations, creative content, strategic initiatives and marketing
Develop compelling presentations, represent and promote the GideonCard Bible Program at International and state conventions and other appropriate venues
Manage the development and promotion of “Birthday for Jesus”, a church based Christmas offering for Scripture
Develop relationships with key stakeholders in the program, including donors and the state, regional and camp GideonCard Coordinators to provide training and motivation for The GideonCard Bible Program at all levels
Work with the Development Division to cultivate and steward new donors by introducing new donors who begin with a GideonCard donation to The Gideons International. This will include direct mail, email and other new donor activation initiatives.
Develop and implement automated marketing protocols for activating new donors that made their first gift by using the GideonCard program and integrating them into our cultivation file.
Build relationships with donors and represent the card program and Development Division at conventions and other events.
Handle questions from donors and members related to the program.
Manage the development and updating of materials and marketing collateral including print, video and digital.
Manage the GideonCard Bible Program web site.
Coordinate with Communications Division to create and promote unique campaigns such as Christmas Cards, Pastor’s Appreciation and Social Media campaigns.
Coordinate the flow of GideonCard materials through the on-line store with Procurement, IT and Member Services.
Manage inventory by refreshing designs of cards and marketing collateral by working with Communications Division on new products and re-prints.
Coordinate the processing of GideonCard donations, card processing, receipting and gift acknowledgement with Donor Services.
Coordinate with Donor Services the processing of GideonCard donations by outside gift processing vendors.

Donor Engagement:

Create high quality interactions with donors using direct mail, e-communications, social media, data file management, events and other stewardship activities that lead to a donor’s joyful support of the ministry.
Serve as the liaison with direct response consultants serving The Gideons International by coordinating all project scope and deliverables including the communications strategy, data and interaction strategy, copywriting, design, production, digital components, and analysis of results for each donor direct campaign.
Develop a strategic and annual plan for donor communications including ideation and creative development of compelling appeal concepts.
Develop a corresponding budget for expenses and projected revenue.
Develop a strategy, plan and budget for new donor acquisition.
Develop and implement automated marketing protocols for activating new donors and integrating them into our cultivation file.
Approve proposals for file segmentation and interaction for each appeal.
Provide direction for direct response writing and design, proofing and correction in conformity with Gideon standards and the style and preferences of the Executive Director.
Secure the necessary approvals of all creative.
Provide critical coordination with IT, Communications, Donor Services, Donor Stewardship, and Member Services for each appeal.
Coordinate the development and deployment of digital communications associated with each direct mail appeal.
Track and report the results of each appeal.
Use the learnings from each campaign to inform the strategy for future projects.

Other Essential Functions
General Management:

Supervise the activity of the Stewardship Associate who is charged with developing protocols for, and gratefully acknowledging gifts by drafting letters and making telephone calls. The Stewardship Associate is responsible for building donor relationships and improving donor retention.
Coordinate the Annual Budgeting process for Donor Engagement and The GideonCard Bible Program
Process all necessary purchase orders and invoices in a timely manner.
Support the strategy of the Manager of Donor Engagement and the Director of Development by fulfilling all duties assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

BA/BS Degree in Marketing or related field
Gideon member in good standing
3-5 years of experience in Card Management is a plus
PC experience, especially in Microsoft Office applications
Successful completion of a drug and background screen

Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated successful leadership in product marketing including research, concept and product development and promotion
Experience in consumer product development and marketing, direct marketing or fundraising is desirable
